Our respected financial analytics client needs a driven, detail-oriented staff Senior Technical Writer to update and improve procedural and developer-oriented documentation for enterprise risk-management applications.
You’ll work onsite in downtown San Francisco (two blocks from BART, 10 minutes from Caltrain) revising and augmenting end-user, installation, and integration documentation for sophisticated financial modeling software. You’ll also create FAQs, technical white papers, support documents, and meaningful system messages for the user interface, as well as flowcharts, diagrams, and images.
Most of your work will involve fleshing out, refocusing, and bringing consistency to existing content. You’ll collaborate with product management and engineering teams in an Agile environment, and work with Support and related distributed teams to ensure your deliverables meet customers’ needs. You’ll author in unstructured FrameMaker and Word, and have the support of a staff editor.
The products you’ll document transform vast amounts of financial data and knowledge into applied insight to manage credit. You don’t have to have been a trader or quantitative analyst at a hedge fund, but should have demonstrated an interest in learning about commercial accounting, finance, insurance, banking, financial regulation, or credit analytics. Ideally, you have more than a conceptual clue about financial instruments such as loans, deposits, bonds, and derivatives.
You’ll report to the Technical Communications Manager and earn competitive salary (to $115k), with health savings account (HSA) and prescription drug coverage, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP) eligibility, and holiday pay, but no dental or vision plan, paid vacation time, or bonuses. This is a limited duration engagement, so cannot be guaranteed to last more than two (2) years.
Required:
At least five (5) years’ commercial software documentation experience
Proven ability to work autonomously and manage your own projects
Experience authoring in Word and (unstructured) FrameMaker
Working knowledge of commercial (as opposed to retail) finance, insurance, banking, financial regulation, or analytics
Understanding of financial instruments such as loans, deposits, bonds, and/or derivatives
Desired:
Working knowledge of Visio, SnagIt, HTML, XML, and JavaScript
Familiarity with Agile development processes and scrums
Experience using Perforce (or other source control systems), RoboHelp, and Acrolinx
Background writing or updating API reference documentation
Formal project management or project lead experience
Understanding of accounting concepts (assets, liabilities, off-balance sheet financing; Profit and Loss statements) as well as risk-management concepts such as liquidity risk, interest rate risk, net interest income, and fund transfer pricing
Work experience at the following: Fair Isaac (FICO), Federal Reserve Bank, Fisher Investments, Franklin Templeton, Advent, Calypso, and/or Thomson Reuters
To apply:
Please email your Word-formatted resume (and a cover letter highlighting any relevant but less-than-obvious experience) to Andrew Davis, synergistech@gmail.com, citing "SFW-508" in your Subject line.
